Japanese internet giant Rakuten explained how it managed to overcome linguistic and cultural barriers when establishing its European headquarters in Luxembourg. With English as Rakuten’s corporate language, the company was able to recruit top talent regardless of their nationality.
“One advantage of being in Luxembourg is the good business environment and the short distance to other big global players as well as to authorities. Overall, we are constantly growing and have multiplied our revenues by 10. We are definitely on track.“ explained Toshihiko “Toby” Otsuka, CEO of Rakuten Europe.

Ohmio Automation Ltd
Self-driving bus shuttle manufacturer Ohmio Automotion Ltd, with roots in Australia and New Zealand, opens its first European office in Luxembourg. After winning a key contract with national railway company CFL, Ohmio will use Luxembourg as its base for addressing the growing demand for autonomous vehicles in Europe.
“We made a submission in Finland last week, we are working on a major project in the UK and we have interest from Austria, Portugal, Italy and Germany. The European market abounds with opportunities.” explained Chairman Mohammed Hikmet.

Israeli cybersecurity specialist SIGA OT Solutions opened its European HQ in Luxembourg in 2022. Rather than monitoring the OT network, SIGA uses autonomous machine learning and predictive analytics to analyse ICS (Industrial Control Systems) level 0 electrical signals.
