On May 9th 2019, EU Member States are celebrating the Europe Day in commemoration of Robert Schuman’s Declaration of 1950. This speech by the French politician born in Luxembourg, proposed the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community, the first precursor to the European Union. This project was certainly the most important multi-lateral peace project to date.

 

For the first time this year, Europe Day is a national public holiday in Luxembourg.

 

In Shanghai, Consuls Generals from EU countries such as Romania (EU presidency), France, Luxembourg, Germany and Portugal held a speech at Fudan University in the morning. Later in the afternoon, the Shanghai Chapter of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, with the support of the Consulates General of the Member States of the European Union in Shanghai, will host its annual Europe Day Reception to celebrate peace and unity in Europe.
